November 29th, Mentor and Mentee

Tonight I met in SL with Isaac so that he could tutor me so that I will be able to make a lion much like the model. We met at about 3:00 today and I had Isacc look at my first attempt at starting a lion from last week. Gary joined us for this session. While waiting for students to log on; I took a look at the lion we are to use as our guide; I discovred if I right clicked on it I could sort of see how it was put together.

I was not using the tools as I should be for creating this lion. I had Isaac take a look at my very basic model on Blogger; seems as though I needed some work on the lion's mane:

After reviewing my blog, Isaac came back with some suggestions and gave me some lessons on how to use the tools better. After we talked for some time; I went off to produce my lion.

I started practicing with developing the lion's mane.

We came back about 1 1/2 later. Since I am extremely slow at this; I didn't have much to show him at that time; just more of the basic more defined.

I had the basics down for the body but today's lesson was a great help in developing the shoulders, mane, tail, legs and the face with forehead, snout and nose.

We plan on meeting again later in the week to go over what I have practiced so far. After our final meeting in SL; I fed my family and went back to creating my lion; here's my progress so far.

All things considered, I think I have come a long way. Today I learn how to manipulte the basic tools, such as scaling circles for different sizes, using the follow-me tool to help develop the tail; creating a number of spheres for use in the face; using the geometry view to see all the connected parts of a piece of the lion. Anyway, still a work in progress; but at least now I am making some progress; here's what I have so far.

Attempting Lion

Here's my attempt of practicing a lion after visiting some of the other students; work in progress; will be working with mentors this week.

Now to figure out how to make the head with various circles, I think!

Week 8, Nov 15th Homework: Astronaut, Google Earth and Wonderland

Create our own astronaut in Google Sketchup; refresh your skills; review tutorials. Once we have created the astronaut we had to upload it to Google Earth and Wonderland.

Not the most attractive astronaut but it's original:

I had a really hard time in Google Sketchup; I had the hardest time giving my Astronaut feet and arms. I looked at Rich K's astronauts feet and liked the way he went about it; so I gave it another try; I spent hours on this thing. In any event; I made a terrible error; before my astronaut had arms and feet; I had made what I had done - a component; it seems as though since I did that, I was unable to go back and add the feet and arms; doesn't matter; I had a difficult time.

Upload to Google Earth was easy; I was wondering why I couldn't choose the location where I wanted it to go? In any event it was uploaded to a random section.

Here it is:

ROCKET LANDED ON GOOGLE SKETCHUP GUY

We then had to upload to Wonderland; not a very user friendly sight; had trouble with getting the avatar to walk; finally figured that out; and was able to walk to different area; saved my astronaut and rocket to the desktop but at first forgot (or didn't know how to save as a kmz file); so I created a post it with my frustrtion.

Again figured it out; but I couldn't get it uploaded to wonderland; I went through all the steps, tried deploying but it would not appear in Wonderland; the more I played the more trouble I got into: now when I log into Wonderland, I get his big black screen; can't seem to see the avatar or the area where I created my post-it.

Astronaut, Week 8, November 15h

I have to leave this one to the professionals; there's no way I could create and astronaut by myself in 40 minutes by freehand!

My attempt at an astronut; somehow I manage to export him to Google Earth! Don't be afraid.

Ares Rocket, Week 7

Here's my version of the Ares Rocket. Not an exact replica but then again, I'm not that talented when it comes to building.

Lotro Homework Week 6,

Assignment was to play Lord of the Rings Online for at least two hours; well I played for more than two hours; only managed to slay the five goblins; I couldn't get past this - when I logged back in it brings me to the same area. Not sure how to move on.

The beinning:

I did get injured twice and had to retreat to revive myself before I got the goblins.

The five goblins that I managed to defeat! Hooray!
