Class 5 Homework, Google Sketch Up, Building a House

I found this to be a very challenging task. I viewed the tutorials, I practices, in fact, managed to make two chairs following the videos; however I really wished they gave more instruction on house building. Took me many tries to make a simple house; I kept erasing by mistake; when trying to add the garage it kept messing up the house. Anyway, I keep trying and finally came up with the following. It did take hours; so there you have it; yard is much bigger than the house but it took so long to make the house I didn't want to mess with scaling it bigger. I did incorporate the landscaping using materials from Google Warehouse. Alot of times when tryig move objects it was difficult, my computer was running slow and I think my hand was moving faster than the objects; sometimes they would end up in the weirdest places. Good think I'm not an architect.

Front of the house; forgot the chimney!

Here I tried to add flowers on the front lawn; there is a cactuas near the front entrance and a swing. These were incorporated through Google Warehouse.

Back of the house. Those are azalea bushes along the house.

Ariel veiw of the property. The fence company is coming at a later date to finish the side fences; good thing the dog stays near her dog house.

View from the back gate, with the dog and dog house in the back.

The dog 'Lily' and her dog house! It is hard to see but I put her name using 3D text on her dog house.

Th pool; gotta have it!

More views of the pool! Best part of the house.

Roll Call #2:

Roll Call #1:

House Building Competition

We were tasked with building a team house. Our team members were:
Russ, Patty, Gary, Ws, Yari, Kumari, Bennett, Lynn, Jason (Hyon), and Alfred (my apologies if I forgot someone).

We had a tough time getting started; there were some SL regulars in the area so we solicited some advice from them, especially Little Miss, she loves to build stuff so she gave us some pointers especially about hollowing out the walls to make windows.

Here's our house with roof deck and a hot tub. As you can see the car was the first and easiest part of this project; we started with brick structure whereby we made three walls out of one block, but with the advice of Little Miss it was better to start over making one wall at a time to hollow portions out to make windows then link them together.

Enjoying the fruits of our labor!

Week #4 October 18th Class

During the week, I was determined to at least get down the basics of what I was doing before I met with my group for the group project; I found some building instructions in NCI (New Citizen's Incorporated) a place for "Newbies" to go to get information and help with SL. After reading and following these instructions; and hours of practice; I was able to make one room; here it is.

Attempting to build. Well when I first started this I had no idea what to do or where to even begin; it was a little crazy in the sandbox that night; sirens going off; loud music; all kinds of people hanging around; also they (not sure who) kept deleting what we were working on, sending it back into our lost and found inventory. Anyway here is my first attempt during class that night. Not very good if I do say so myself.

Week 3, Search for more ImmersiveEducation Avatars

I search on Thursday evening thinking that some students from Discovering Computer Graphics may be on line; I did not find any students. I did find one another night, but he is also in my class as well. I did however find one other Immersive Education Avatar by the name f BRaineDamage Hexicola; turns out he was not affiliated with Immersive Education; he teleported me to Devil's Island; he called it Hell and that they worshiped devils. We chatted briefly, he was not totally obnoxious; however it just proves that you really need to know who you are talking to before you let them become your friend.

Week 3: 5 New Friends, not a part of Immersive Education

Finding new friends . . . can be difficult but perseverance paid off! I actually
befriended 7 new friends. Some were very willing to discuss Immersive Education; others are there as social network and just want to hang and/or meet new people.

Here's a screen shot of the list of my new friends.

I will briefly describe my encounters with each of my new friends. The first two people I me were Angelica Donogal and Terry Dethly. Angelica is a young woman from Ireland. She is new to SL and was quite happy to make friends with me. She was interested in the Immersive Education approach of our class. Terry is also new to SL but was more interested in checking out SL and not so much about discussing Immersive Education.

Here's my first two new friends;I met them on Avatar Island.

My conversations with Angelica:

My brief conversation with Terry; however, we did not get a chance to discuss Immersive Education.

The next two friends I met were also from Avatar Island; Shyann Harvy and Triniboy Snowbear.

Shyann and I had a brief conversation. We talked about a little about Immersive Education but at the time I did not get a snap shot of it.

Triniboy Snowbear: A man from the Bronx, age 32, drives a truck delivering appliances. He was dancing the whole time; he was interested in learning a little about about the Immersive Education experience on SL but more interested in socializing.

QNS, XUE, told me she was a teacher in SL, although I am not entirely sure for what; She said it was for a Citizen Police Department (I assume in NCI). She would help fellow SL citizens. She was the one who referred me to NCI - New Citizens Incorporated. This is where I met Xilin Yifu.

My last encounter was one of the best; Xilin Yifu;she would not befriend me at first until I explained my reason for being on SL. Turns out she is an instructor at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. After we chatted for some time, she offered me friendship and then invited me to her class. It was located at Chinese Island - Sandbox, Monash Univerity (210,23, 25) The class is both in English and Chinese. The teams and team members are required to where t-shirts to distinguish themselves from each team. One of the goals of tonight's class was to read the board for the train and try to buy purchase tickets for a train ride; here are the photos. They are required to purchase the tickets in Chinese.
